نوع من الحشرات يمثل أعجوبة من عجائب الخالق عز وجل و يطلق عليه اسم فرس النبي او أم طهارة أو السرعوف أو الراهبة أو جمل اليهود ويطلق عليه اليهود اسم جمل سليمان ، واسمه ليس له صلة بنبي معين ولكن كلمة النبي هي في الأساس مشتقة من كلمة إغريقية معناها النبي أو الكاهن ، ويرجع سبب تسميته باسم السرعوف المصلي بسبب وجود انثناء في أرجله الأمامية ليبدو وكأنه يصلي وكانوا الأغريق بسبب هذه الوضعية يعتقدون أنه ذات قوة خارقة حيث يمكنه الثباء لوقت طويل دون حركة في وضع الصلاة ،وهناك 150 نوع منها و أغلبها موجود بقارة أسيا ويكثر وجوده في الأماكن المعتدلة لانها لا تستطيع الإنسجام مع درجة الحرارة العالية أو البرودة الشديدة ، و لهذا يغلب وجودها في الحدائق والمتنزهات والغابات أي أنه يوجد في أي مكان مزروع نباتات وتنتشر في الأماكن الأستوائية وشبه الأستوائية وأمريكا الشمالية والحيوانية وأوروبا وأسيا وأفريقيا ماعدا أنتاركتيكا في القطب الجنوبي ،ترددت الكثير من الأساطير حول هذا النوع من الحشرات مثل أسطورة أن لو أكلها حصان أو بغل قد يموت كما يمكنها أن تصيب الانسان بالعمي إذا لمسوا لعابها

يمتلك فرس النبي بطن ممدودة وعيون كبيرة وبالتالي يتميز برؤيته القوية كما يمتلك أرجل أمامية طويلة بها أشواك حادة لتساعدها علي التشبث بالفريسة والتمكن منها و أيضا يمتلك عنق طويل وتأخذ رأسه شكل المثلث التي يمكنها الدوران 180 درجة ،وهناك أنواع ملونة بألوان مختلفة مثل الأخضر الفاتح أو الأخضر المائل للبني والأصفر والأبيض ، وتمتلك قدرة علي الدهاء حيث يمكنها أن تأخذ شكل ولون البيئة المحيطة بها سواء الغصن أو النباتات ثم يقوم بالإمساك بفريسته باستخدام أرجله الأمامية ثم وضعها في فمه وأكلها ، ويصل طوله حوالي نصف قدم ومن الجدير بالذكر أن أنثي حشرة فرس النبي تأكل زوجها عقب إتمام عملية التزاوج حيث تقوم بوضع البيض في المبيض الذي يضم العديد من البيض يصل ما بين 75-300 بيضة ويحيط به رغوة بها بروتينات تقوم الغلاف الخارجي له
